Description Of Work:
Jacob redid two bathrooms for us.  Demoed both in one day including removing a hard wood floor in one, and a vinyl floor in the other.  He then installed new vanities, countertops, plumbing fixtures, bath tub, tile floors, and tiled bath tub, shower surround.  Jacob also installed a kitchen backsplash in a mosaic/glass tile pattern from Lowes.

Member Comments:
Extraordinarily well.  Jacob's crew cleaned up at the end of every work day.  They were punctual, communicated their schedules well, and extremely polite.  I couldn't be happier with their services and will absolutely not use anyone else for future remodeling projects.  (We have two more bathrooms to do, and a host of other projects.)

How much did the final cost compare to the original estimate? right on

How does the value of the work compare to the price? I got more than my money's worth

How far in advance did you schedule the work? more than 2 weeks

Why did you choose this contractor? reputation

Have you used this company before? this is the first time I've used this company

What did you like most about this contractor? He was prompt and responsive with any questions I had and his communication.

What surprises came up during the course of the work? Nothing.

What words of advice would you give other members considering this contractor? I would highly recommend Jacob's ladder for remodeling jobs.

The project entailed remodeling my kitchen. Jacob's Ladder Handyman Services installed the porcelain floor tile throughout the dining room, kitchen and laundry and the ceramic and glass back splash. Specifically, it was his excellent crew of Bob and Jeff that completed the project. What a fantastic team they are. They were very meticulous, professional and respectful of my home. They saw and anticipated every aspect of the job. They consulted me on design and installation considerations throughout the whole process.

I also had them remove the counter top in preparation for the new one. They worked with the Counter top Shop on scheduling the removal so I was only without a sink for 3 days. (Late Monday counter tops removed, Tuesday new counter top installed, Thursday morning plumbing hooked back up. Thanks, Jacob) They have also installed a new toilet, fixed 2 leaky faucets, repositioned kitchen cabinet, installed over the stove mcrowave, fixed dryer connection, fixed door lock, replaced 1 GFP receptacle, 2 light switches; they can do it all. Well almost all. I needed to have the 220 line for the stove moved and some drywall work done. They could have attempted to do it but knowing that it would not meet their standards for excellence, they suggested I find a professional. Because I trust them so much, I asked them to contact an electrician and a drywaller for me. I received very quick and excellent service. Thumbs-up for their honesty on their limitations. Because of their commitment to excellence, I am already lining up additional projects for this spring. I do have to warn you, they are in high demand. I hesitate to give them such a glowing report because that means I may have to get in line to get my projects complete. But trust me, they are worth the wait.

Thank God for Angie's List! The overall great marks in every category was what convinced us to use Jacob's Ladder. From the moment we shook hands with Jacob before the estimate, until the final fixture was installed, the experience was nothing but enjoyable! Bob and Jeff were the main construction personnel and were ALWAYS friendly, courteous, prompt and cleaned up their job site at the end of each work day. If there was a question about fixture placement or any other detail, they always got my wife's (the project designer's) opinion, and if we were stuck on a certain technical point, they were always quick to suggest solutions based on their experience, the majority of which found their way into the final design. Aside from Jeff and Bob, every other sub-contractor (drywall finishers and painters) were of the same high caliber and quality. As stated previously, my wife is an interior designer, and plans to use Jacob's Ladder as her contractor of choice on all of her future design jobs. Top notch all the way around!

Description Of Work:
Remove and replace rear side of roofing. Remove and replace low slope dormer roof with rubber membrane. Replaced sections of dormer siding.

Jacob was very prompt and courteous. Spelled everything out and offered a few choices. We had always had a problem with the dormer siding becoming detached. So far so good, no problems. Everything went very well. Estimate was spot on.

Description Of Work:
This project involved a bathroom remodel. The scope included a new CUSTOM tile shower, new tile floor with heating element, and a new tile tub surround. Both the tub and shower required all new plumbing and fixtures including hand showers in both and a set of body sprays in the shower.

Jacob was on time for the initial estimate and worked with me through several revisions. I had always done this type of work on my own in the past, so hiring a contractor was a big change for me. I found Jacobs Ladder through Angie's List, and the reviews all seemed very positive, so I was willing to take a chance. Since I was not certain I wanted to turn over the project completely, I asked for several versions of the proposal to break out costs and options. Jacob worked with me through each revision, even though it got a little confusing at times. In the end, they ended up doing most of the work he originally quoted.

They gave us a start date about 3 weeks out from the time they gave us the quote, and stuck to that date. The guys (Bob and Jeff) showed up each day at 8:00 and put in a full days work each time. We never had to guess if or when they would be there - which is not a story you hear much with contractors. The work area was always cleaned up each day and they did their best to keep things clean throughout the house during the work. They covered walkways with runners each day to keep the floors cleaned and protected.

As an engineer, I can be a very detail-oriented person, so each day I would review their work in the evening and ask questions about it, even putting sticky notes all over the room to cover details. Bob was kind enough to go over each of these items and always answered my questions in a way that made me comfortable they knew what they were doing. Whenever there was a question or issue, I could talk it over with Bob and come up with a good solution.

Now that the work is complete, we have no regrets in hiring Jacobs Ladder and have already recommended them to others.

Description Of Work:
Roof tear-off. Roof replaced 9 plywood sheets replaced. Replaced vents on roof Added external vent to bathroom. Replaced skylight. Installed new flashing around new chimney. Ordered bigger dumpster to accommodate customer needing to get rid of some building materials. Good clean up. Customer asked that they don't drop heavy bundles of roofing to prevent cracks in cathedral ceilings inside. No problems. Wrong color trim quickly replaced. No flowers or bushes ruined in the process. Workers were organized, knowledgeable, hard working and pleasant.

Called for estimate and got a response from the owner in a timely manner. Easy to communicate with during the process. Receptionist very nice and helpful. Owner worked with us, as we had to have a chimney repaired first. We called him when chimney done and started roof about 1 1/2 weeks later (2 days of rain). They arrived when they said they would, worked hard and did a good job. Dumpster was removed within 2 days. They stayed till dusk and worked on a Saturday 1/2 day to finish the job. It was a good experience! We even went to view a previous customer's house who had the same color roofing we were getting and talked with her. She also had a good experience.

Description of Work: Jacob's Ladder changed a smoke detector battery from a unit which was EXTREMELY difficult to reach.

Comments:
I contacted Jacobs Ladder after trying several other options, including the local fire department, to have a smoke detector battery replaced in a completely inaccessible unit. The low battery beeping was going on its third day and I wasn't about to go through another restless night. I called Jacobs Ladder in the afternoon and I explained the situation and offered to pay for an "emergency service visit". A few hours later Jacob himself came and took care of the battery replacement. He was very careful manipulating the 16 foot tall ladder in tight spaces and didn't scratch a thing. He was in and out in about 15 minutes and did a great job. I was told that they did not charge an emergency fee, so the quick service was most appreciated.
I'm sure this seems like a simple service, but the attention and timeliness of the service, along with his professionalism was noteworthy.

I would strongly recommend this company and will use them again in the future.

Description of Work: *Remove old brick and concrete front porch, build new front porch, install new Leaf Guard system over gutters*

Comments:
This is the second job we have had Jacob do, the first was a new roof .We removed an old brick porch and had him build a new one with treated porch framing, decking and railings. We were very happy with the two men who did the work. They were attentive to our questions and needs. The work was done in 3 1/2 days from start to finish. The men cleaned up and were happy with both materials and services performed.

Jacob also installed a leaf guard system on our gutters, which is fantastic in handling debris from trees and built a small step for our side door area.

Description Of Work:
We had our master bathroom totally gutted. They removed an existing fiberglass pre-formed shower/tub and we and a tiled shower and floor installed, a new recessed medicine cabinet installed, a vanity and sink and faucet, as well as a new toilet and towel bars installed. Also we had the vinyl floor replaced in the hall bath along with the vanity, sink and faucet and a new light fixture in both bathrooms and both bathrooms had new exhaust fans vented to the outside through the roof. Another project done, was to remove the old railing on our front porch and replace it with a single large post. The vinyl underside of the roof was replaced as well.

Member Comments:
To start with, the contract Jacob wrote up for us was VERY detailed. This was a very nice detail.

We were told up front that it would be at least 8-9 weeks before they could even start our job, and this was exactly the case. Throughout that waiting time period we had occasional communication with them about the start date. We were called and asked if they could start the next day, but would have delayed it if we could not have accommodated. Once they started the job they were very regular, showing up in the morning at the time we were told.

They started by putting plastic flooring down on the carpeted stairs and hall and into the bedroom.. The other areas they put tarps on daily. They cleaned up after themselves daily and put their tools out of our way. Bob and Jeff (The workers) did the bulk of the work, with a painter coming in a couple of times as well. Bob was very knowledgeable about all the projects and gave us options and advice, but never wanted to influence us to do something we didn't want. We made sure we got everything done to our satisfaction, from the pattern of the tile work, to the grout color and the placement of the towel bar and toilet paper holders. They worked around making sure we always had one bathroom to use. We did purchase many of the items ourselves because we wanted to get the items we liked when we saw them. Otherwise, if we gave them the SKU numbers , they were able to go pick up the larger items.

This entire job went smoothly until the next to last day when we realized that the vanity drawers did not clear the woodwork. But Bob said he could build an insert to match the color, which he did perfectly. You would never know it was not made that way.
Overall we were extremely pleased with the workmanship and professionalism we experienced.
